The story of the leaf

Silver Needle is made from the bud alone — the unopened tip of the shoot, picked one by one in the first weeks of spring before it unfurls into leaf. It takes a great many buds, and a great deal of restraint, to fill even a small caddy.

The processing is nearly nothing at all: the buds are withered slowly in mountain air and dried, hand-rolled and untouched by rolling machines or oxidation. What remains is the leaf at its most honest — pale silver, downy, and tasting faintly of honey, blossom and the cool air of 4,500 feet.

Pale champagne in the cup, white blossom and honey in the nose — a tea that rewards a longer steep and a quieter room.
